Fall Protection in General Industry

Did you know that according to OSHA, Falls are among the most common causes of serious work-related injuries and deaths. Because of this, Employers must take the necessary precautions to prevent employee falls from places such as overhead platforms, elevated work stations, or even into work-related holes. If you are an Employer, here are some ways you can create a safe working environment for your employees and minimize the risk of falls in your workplace.

  1. Put guards such as a railing, toeboard or floor hole cover over every floor hole that an employee could accidentally fall into.
  2. Install guardrails and toeboards around every raised platform or runway that is 4 ft or higher off the ground.
  3. Make sure guardrails are in place anywhere there’s the slightest possibility that the employee could fall into or onto dangerous machinery or equipment such as chemicals or conveyor belts. By putting guardrails and toeboards in place it will prevent workers from falling and getting injured.
  4. Provide employees with the necessary PPE such as safety harness and line, and safety nets, as well as installing railings and handrails where needed.

As an employee we want to remind you that OSHA requires all employers to provide the employees with safe working conditions by keeping floors clean and free of obstructions, providing PPE at no cost to employees, and training employees about job hazard.
