Know the Risks of Traumatic Brain Injuries

We all want to take safety measures to protect ourselves and those around us on the job site, but accidents can still happen. A perfect example of this is the number of traumatic brain injuries (TBI) on construction sites despite the use of hard hats. At Safety Solutions & Supply, we know this is a serious problem.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, traumatic brain injuries can be mild to severe, and the most common form of a traumatic brain injury is a concussion. These injuries can affect a person for the rest of their life.

Also, according to the Brain Injury Institute, 20% of TBI-related workplace injuries come from falls that occur on surfaces that are uneven, wet, or have an out-of-place object. Statistics show that construction sites have the highest number of TBIs on the job, which is why the Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires all workers to wear head protection when there is the potential for falling objects, low overhead objects, or electrical hazards.

Although these laws are in place and hard hats are the best form of protection, there are times that a TBI can happen despite wearing the proper head protection, but they can’t protect you at all if you don’t wear one. That alone is enough reason to be sure to take that extra step and wear a hardhat and to double-check that it isn’t inferior or damaged in any way.
