Mosaic’s HQ move will put it close to Florida phosphate mining action

SAFETY SOLUTIONS & SUPPLY is pleased to welcome The Mosaic Company as a soon-to-be Florida-headquartered company. The company announced its plans to move its headquarters from Plymouth, Minn., to Hillsborough County, Fla., just a few weeks ago. What hasn’t been announced yet is the site for the new Florida offices, the timing of the move, and the number of employees the company will relocate from Minnesota.

A Fortune 500 company, Mosaic is the leading business name in phosphate mining in Florida. Mosaic mines two key crop nutrients, phosphate and potash, and produces specialty products MicroEssentials, K-Mag and Pegasus. It’s the largest U.S. producer of potash and phosphate fertilizer and the largest phosphate company in the world.

In Florida, Mosaic currently is mining phosphate rock on more than 70,000 of the 380,000 acres it owns in Manatee, Hillsborough, Polk, and Hardee counties. Its mining operations in Polk County are within just a few minutes’ drive from the Safety Solutions & Supply headquarters in Mulberry.

“Mosaic is among the largest employers and most significant corporate economic drivers in Central Florida,” President and CEO Joc O’Rourke said in a company-issued news release.

Mosaic said its headquarters move from Minnesota to west Central Florida is expected to yield several benefits:

  • Closer proximity and better access to Mosaic Fertilizantes. The company’s recent acquisition of Vale Fertilizantes doubled the size of its workforce, significantly increased its presence in Brazil, and reinforced the importance of keeping Americas-based business units more closely connected to corporate teams;

  • A continued focus on the potash business with little impact on accessibility for leaders and team members;

  • Opportunities to amplify Mosaic’s presence in Central Florida and engage more closely with communities where the company operates, and

  • Significant long-term cost savings.

“We believe locating our corporate office there will give us opportunities to amplify Mosaic’s presence and engage more closely with communities where we operate,” Mr. O’Rouke said. “With the cost savings we expect to achieve and the closer proximity to our Mosaic Fertilizantes business in Brazil, this move will drive improved efficiency and good value.”

The Mosaic Company was formed in October 2004 by a merger between IMC Global, a fertilizer company founded in 1909, and Cargill’s crop nutrition division. The company is one of the world’s leading producers and marketers of concentrated phosphate and potash crop nutrients. Mosaic is a single-source provider of phosphate and potash fertilizers and feed ingredients for the global agriculture industry. The company employs more than 9,000 people in the United States and around the world. More information about the company is available online at www.mosaicco.com.
