PPE Scarcity Update

Due to Coronavirus (COVID-19), personal protective equipment (PPE) shortages are posing a tremendous challenge to the US healthcare system. Healthcare facilities are now having to identify alternate ways to provide patient care because of the lack of necessary PPE. That’s why we here at Safety Solutions and Supply are keeping you informed of the latest updates.

If you are employed at a healthcare facility, CDC tells us, “Crisis strategies can be considered during severe PPE shortages and should be used with the contingency opinions to help stretch available supplies for the most critical needs.”

These strategies include:

  1. Canceling all elective or non-urgent procedures/appointments
  2. Reserve PPE for healthcare personnel (HCP)
  3. Use reusable PPE that can be reprocessed.
  4. Allow HCP to extend use of respirators, facemasks, and eye protection, beyond a single patient contact.

These strategies will help extend the use of PPE so that all HCP will be properly covered during patient visits. Honeywell and other companies have also agreed to increase their production of N95 respirators to help increase support for our emergency response workers.

Once PPE availability returns to normal, healthcare workers should promptly resume standard practices.

We here at Safety Solutions and Supply are honored to support the U.S. government’s efforts to protect Americans with the necessary PPE. If you are in need of any protective equipment, please feel free to contact us here at 866-537-2262.
