RAMP Safety Basics

Are you looking to build a stronger safety culture in your work environment? We here at Safety Solutions and Supply would like to share with you our knowledge about the RAMP program. RAMP is an acronym that stands for: Recognize, Assess, Minimize, and Prepare. You can do that by following the below tips.

  • Recognizing hazards
You can recognize the hazard by first understanding the nature of it and identifying the most important physical hazards from equipment, conditions, and procedures. When you know this, you can place it in a category such as flammable, explosive, corrosive, oxidizer, irritant, or toxicant.
  • Assessing the risks of hazards
You can assess the risk by considering how you might be exposed and what the result of the exposure would be, or by creating your own experiment.
  • Minimizing the risks of hazards
After assessing the risk, think about how you might minimize the risk of exposure through the use of equipment (PPE), techniques, and procedures.
  • Preparing for emergencies
It goes without saying that you should always be prepared. Whether it’s an accidental spill or maybe even a fire, you should be aware and knowledgeable about how to contain any accidents. So, have a plan in place and know how to execute it.

The RAMP concept provides a framework for making chemical safety an integral part of every workplace. Which could greatly help you improve the safety culture for your employees.
