Stay Safe on the Roads

Did you know November 18-24 is National Road Safety Week? “Brake,” a road safety charity, organizes this week once a year.

During Road Safety Week, you can normally find the police conducting roadside checks for vehicle safety. They can highlight the dangers of a poorly maintained vehicle and offer safety advice to drivers. They can also be found running speed checks to remind drivers that speeding is a major cause of accidents and even deaths in many car accidents.
How can you participate?
Come out to a road safety demonstration at one of your local organizations. Thousands of organizations host different events, awareness video screenings, talks and more. You can also host your own event to help bring awareness.
If you are a teacher, you can use this week to teach your students about the rules of the road. You could teach them how to safely cross the road, the importance of wearing a helmet when riding your bike on the road, and how to stay in highly visible areas when riding their bicycle. If we teach them while they are young, they will remember as they get older.
We hope that by bringing awareness to National Road Safety Week, people are reminded of the road rules they may have forgotten and therefore possibly preventing many accidents.
